About

I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and Licensed Clinical Alcohol and Drug Counselor practicing in Maryland. I hold a master's degree in advanced practice addictions counseling. In addition to treating general mental health concerns, I specialize in addiction. My experience includes working with adolescents, young adults, and adults in inpatient and outpatient psychiatric and addiction treatment settings.

I believe you are an expert on your own experience and within my practice I strive to create a safe and therapeutic environment in which change can take place. My goal within the therapeutic relationship is to identify how to best meet everyone's unique needs while meeting them where they are. I believe addiction and mental health go hand in hand. So, whether you're looking for treatment for a mental health condition, addiction, or both I have experience. My style is to be genuine and transparent, placing a strong emphasis on creative solutions.

My approach is integrated, heavily based in motivational interviewing, and incorporates DBT principles. I incorporate a trauma informed, person centered, strengths based, and solution focused approach into my practice. I utilize interventions from various approaches and evidence-based practices which I will tailor to everyone's needs. When treating co-occurring disorders, my goal is to understand the nature of the relationship between these conditions and take an integrated approach in treating them. I believe relapse prevention and intervention requires taking a closer look at what works and what doesn't for each individual. In some cases, interrupting the cycle of relapse is just a matter of having the right tools, in other cases you may have the tools but not know how to effectively use them.

As a young adult I completed several Outward Bound courses and received a B.A in Art. These experiences are the source of my appreciation for experiential and expressive therapies today. My degree in art laid the foundation for my value of creative therapies.

Although personal experience does not dictate my practice, I credit my personal experience as the source of inspiration, foundation, and the avenue that led me to this field of work. My motivation and drive first came when I was exposed to the disparity between mental health and addiction treatment. It was this awareness, in addition to my fascination with mental health and the complexities of addiction, that led me to my passion to contribute to the improvement and growth of the treatment field.
